# Mining

Break open ore veins with a pickaxe — one orbit, one swing, one clean strike.

{% hint style="info" %}
📍 **Jump in:** [Open the Miner's Tent shop in Pawtato Land](https://pawtato.gg/?move=4431:1111).
{% endhint %}

Mining takes place at **Ore Veins**, seams of rock that surface on the **mountains** of the world map. Each vein has certain attributes:

* **Type** of Vein (currently **Copper** and **Tin**)
  * The vein's ore is its main yield, but there is always a possibility for a rarer strike
* **Level** of Vein (currently 1 and 2)
* **Remaining Supply**
* **Remaining Time**

{% hint style="warning" %}
Veins are temporary: they run dry when their timer runs out or when their supply is exhausted.

When a vein disappears, that spot enters a **9 hour cooldown** before a new one can appear there.
{% endhint %}

Mining is the rarest of the three gathering professions to find in the world. Only **one vein is open across the whole map at a time**, on a **6 hour** lifetime, and it is placed at random among the mountains — so you never know where the next vein turns up. A single vein therefore carries the whole profession's supply: **3,000** successful extractions on a Level 1 vein, **1,500** on a Level 2.

## How to mine (step by step)

1. **Get a Pickaxe (and, optionally, a License).** Open the [**Miner's Tent**](https://pawtato.gg/?move=4431:1111) building on the world map. In its shop, select **Basic Pickaxe** and press **Purchase** — any working pickaxe can work a vein. You can also forge a Basic Pickaxe for free at the [Blacksmith](/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/crafting-stations.md) instead (see [Pickaxes](#pickaxes) below). While you're at the Tent, you can also select a **Mining License** or **Golden Mining License** to raise your daily extraction limit (see [Mining License](#mining-license) below). Without a license you get 10 free extractions per day.
2. **Equip the pickaxe.** Open your Hero's equipment, select the **Main Hand** slot, and **Equip** your Pickaxe. The pickaxe must have Durability remaining — each extraction attempt costs 1 Durability, whatever the outcome.
3. **Find a vein.** Zoom in on the world map until the **Ore Vein** marker appears, then click it. Its label shows the vein's name, its level, remaining **Supply** and a countdown.
4. **Start the session.** With a Hero selected and a pickaxe equipped, press **⛏️ Start Mining**.
5. **Play the strike minigame.** Your pickaxe orbits the vein; tap to freeze the orbit and commit a strike. Land inside the marked section to take hit points off the vein. See [Mining Minigame](#mining-minigame) below.
6. **Collect the ore.** On a broken vein the ore (or rarer loot) is shown and added to your backpack automatically, and you earn [**Miners Union** Reputation](#miners-union-reputation). Beside the Reputation line the screen also reports **what the extraction was worth**, priced live off the market — a **\~** in front means part of it could not be priced, so the real value is at least the figure shown.

To work a vein, your Hero needs:

* A **Pickaxe** equipped in the main hand slot
  * Any working pickaxe can attempt any vein — there is **no hard tier requirement**. Higher-level veins are instead balanced to be impractical without the harder, faster strikes of a better pickaxe.
* The pickaxe must have **Durability** remaining and must not be **broken** (it costs 1 Durability per attempt, regardless of outcome)
* The Hero must not be too **injured** to act

#### Mining License

To keep the veins from being stripped bare, every Player is allowed a maximum of 10 extractions every day. By purchasing a Mining License, this limit can be increased.

<table><thead><tr><th width="358">License</th><th width="203">Limit</th><th>Validity</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>None</td><td>10 extractions / day</td><td>unlimited</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Mining License</strong></td><td>25 extractions / day</td><td>14 days</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Golden Mining License</strong></td><td>100 extractions / day</td><td>14 days</td></tr></tbody></table>

The daily limit resets at **02:00 UTC**, the same instant as the Fishing and Foraging limits — each profession still counts its own attempts. **Only one License can be active at a time** — buying a Golden Mining License while a standard one is running replaces it, and a standard License cannot be activated while a Golden one is still active. Buying the same tier again extends the licence you already hold.

An active License shows up in your **buff bar** alongside your other timed boosts, so you can see at a glance how long it still has to run.

{% hint style="info" %}
Only extractions that **break the vein** count against your daily limit. A run you time out or fail costs you a point of pickaxe Durability, but not one of your daily attempts.
{% endhint %}

#### Mining Minigame

Click the vein marker on the map to open its session panel, then press **⛏️ Start Mining**.

The vein is a circle with a single **marked section** on its rim, and your **pickaxe orbits it** at a constant speed.

* **Tap** (click, the on-screen button or the spacebar) to freeze the orbit and commit a strike at the pickaxe's current angle.
* A strike **inside the marked section** takes your pickaxe's damage off the vein and the marked section jumps to a new random spot on the rim. Some strikes land as a **Critical Hit** and deal **double** damage.
* A strike **outside** it deals nothing but still costs the swing's recovery time — and the **third miss ends the run**.
* Bring the vein's **hit points to zero before the timer runs out** and it breaks open. If the timer expires first, the extraction **times out**.

Each vein level sets how many hit points it has, how large the marked section is, and how long you get:

<table><thead><tr><th width="230">Vein</th><th width="130">Hit points</th><th width="180">Marked section</th><th>Time</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Level 1</strong> (Copper Vein)</td><td>100</td><td>8% of the rim</td><td>40 seconds</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Level 2</strong> (Tin Vein)</td><td>150</td><td>6% of the rim</td><td>35 seconds</td></tr></tbody></table>

The marked section is deliberately small, and that — not a level requirement — is what gates the higher vein. **Your pickaxe's whole job is to land more damage inside that clock:**

<table><thead><tr><th width="200">Pickaxe</th><th width="120">Rarity</th><th>Effect on your strikes</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Basic Pickaxe</strong></td><td>Common</td><td>10 damage per strike, 1.5s swing</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Fine Pickaxe</strong></td><td><mark style="color:green;">Uncommon</mark></td><td>15 damage per strike, 1.3s swing</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Superior Pickaxe</strong></td><td><mark style="color:blue;">Rare</mark></td><td>20 damage per strike, 1.1s swing (also grants bonus Luck)</td></tr></tbody></table>

A better pickaxe both hits harder **and** recovers faster between swings, so it fits more damage into the same time budget.

A [**Golden Lodestone** or **Platinum Lodestone**](/pawtato-land/gameplay/equipment/talismans.md) equipped in a Talisman slot **raises the chance a landed strike crits**, which stacks with your pickaxe's damage. This is the minigame's own crit roll — it is entirely separate from your Hero's combat Critical Strike stat, and does nothing in battle.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tips**

* A higher-tier pickaxe doesn't lock you out of a vein, but on a Level 2 vein you need 150 hit points off a 6% section in 35 seconds — a Basic Pickaxe rarely gets there. Look for a better pickaxe before you chase Tin.
* You only get **three** misses. On the harder vein it is usually right to skip a pass rather than commit a strike you aren't sure of — but every swing you take costs recovery time, so hesitating too long runs out the clock instead.
* Veins are shared across all players, and there is only ever one open. Check the supply and the countdown before travelling to it.
  {% endhint %}

#### Pickaxes

Pickaxes are one-handed weapons as well as mining tools — your Hero can fight with one, though a dedicated weapon will serve better.

<table><thead><tr><th width="180">Pickaxe</th><th width="120">Rarity</th><th width="120">Durability</th><th width="110">Damage</th><th>Where to get it</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Basic Pickaxe</strong></td><td>Common</td><td>30</td><td>10</td><td>Miner's Tent, or forged at the <a href="/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/crafting-stations.md">Blacksmith</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Fine Pickaxe</strong></td><td><mark style="color:green;">Uncommon</mark></td><td>50</td><td>15</td><td>Miner's Tent — <mark style="color:green;">Liked</mark> Miners Union</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Superior Pickaxe</strong></td><td><mark style="color:blue;">Rare</mark></td><td>100</td><td>20</td><td>Miner's Tent — <mark style="color:cyan;">Admired</mark> Miners Union</td></tr></tbody></table>

Pickaxes (and the Lodestone talismans) are forged metalwork, so they are **crafted and repaired at the** [**Blacksmith**](/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/crafting-stations.md).

The [Blacksmith](/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/crafting-stations.md) recipe for a **Basic Pickaxe** costs **10 Wood + 8 Stone + 5 Tattered Linen** on a **12 hour** build and always produces a Common, soulbound pickaxe — the free way into Mining if you would rather not spend TATO at the Tent.

#### Miner's Tent

The **Miner's Tent** is the Miners Union's shop. Veins are not listed inside it — you find those out on the map — but everything you need to work them is sold here. Higher-tier goods are gated by your **Miners Union** [Reputation](/pawtato-land/gameplay/the-world/reputation.md), and several are **reforged** from the tier below, sacrificing the item you already own.

<table><thead><tr><th width="220">Item</th><th width="240">Cost</th><th>Requires</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Mining License</strong></td><td>TATO</td><td>—</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Golden Mining License</strong></td><td>TATO</td><td>—</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Basic Pickaxe</strong></td><td>TATO</td><td>—</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Fine Pickaxe</strong></td><td>10 Quartz + <strong>1 Basic Pickaxe</strong></td><td><mark style="color:green;">Liked</mark></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Superior Pickaxe</strong></td><td>10 Tourmaline + <strong>1 Fine Pickaxe</strong></td><td><mark style="color:cyan;">Admired</mark></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Golden Lodestone</strong></td><td>1 Black Opal</td><td><mark style="color:$success;">Trusted</mark></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Platinum Lodestone</strong></td><td>1 Alexandrite + <strong>1 Golden Lodestone</strong></td><td><mark style="color:cyan;">Admired</mark></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Blueprint: Copper Bar</strong></td><td>25 Copper Ore</td><td>—</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Blueprint: Tin Bar</strong></td><td>25 Tin Ore</td><td>—</td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Blueprint: Copper Bar** and **Blueprint: Tin Bar** are Common [Blueprints](/pawtato-land/gameplay/consumables/blueprints.md) and are **soulbound** — learned, never traded. Learning one at the [Blacksmith](/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/crafting-stations.md) teaches that bar's recipe: **10 Ore + 1 Water + 2 Coal → 1 Bar**, a 30-minute craft, exactly like the Iron Bar it sits beside. The bars themselves are ordinary tradeable materials once smelted.
{% endhint %}

Because both blueprints are soulbound, buying one twice would gain you nothing — so the Tent won't let you. Once you have learned one at the Blacksmith it is marked **Already learned** in the shop list and its **Purchase** button is greyed out, so you can't spend the ore a second time.

**Level 2 Veins** (currently the **Tin Vein**) carry half the **Supply** of a Level 1 vein and appear less often. Their minigame is much harder: half again as many hit points off a smaller marked section, in five seconds less time. They are the only source of **Tin Ore**, **Tourmaline** and **Alexandrite**.

#### The ore

<table><thead><tr><th width="170">Drop</th><th width="130">Rarity</th><th>What it's for</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Gravel</strong></td><td>Common</td><td>The common filler struck out of every vein; also processed at the <a href="/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/crafting-stations.md">Mason</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Copper Ore</strong>, <strong>Tin Ore</strong></td><td><mark style="color:green;">Uncommon</mark></td><td>The base ore of the two vein levels; buys their bar Blueprints and smelts into <strong>Copper Bars</strong> and <strong>Tin Bars</strong> at the Blacksmith</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Quartz</strong></td><td><mark style="color:blue;">Rare</mark></td><td>Buys the <strong>Fine Pickaxe</strong></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Tourmaline</strong></td><td><mark style="color:blue;">Rare</mark></td><td>Buys the <strong>Superior Pickaxe</strong></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Black Opal</strong></td><td><mark style="color:orange;">Legendary</mark></td><td>Buys the <strong>Golden Lodestone</strong> talisman</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Alexandrite</strong></td><td><mark style="color:orange;">Legendary</mark></td><td>Buys the <strong>Platinum Lodestone</strong> talisman</td></tr></tbody></table>

Every vein can also turn up one of the five raw [Gemstones](/pawtato-land/gameplay/resources/gemstones.md) — **Raw Amethyst**, **Raw Emerald**, **Raw Ruby**, **Raw Sapphire** and **Raw Topaz** — as a rare bonus strike. Those are a cross-profession find rather than a mining one, so they earn no Miners Union Reputation.

## Miners Union Reputation

Every vein you break earns [**Miners Union** Reputation](/pawtato-land/gameplay/the-world/reputation.md). The amount depends on what you struck, and each drop stops rewarding Reputation once your total Miners Union Reputation reaches its **ceiling** — nudging you toward rarer strikes (and the higher-level vein) to keep climbing.

<table><thead><tr><th width="230">Drop</th><th width="140">Rarity</th><th width="200">Reputation per extraction</th><th>Earns until (ceiling)</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Gravel</td><td>Common</td><td>5</td><td>3,000</td></tr><tr><td>Copper Ore, Tin Ore</td><td>Uncommon</td><td>10</td><td>6,000</td></tr><tr><td>Quartz, Tourmaline</td><td>Rare</td><td>50 <em>(reduced at high standing, see below)</em></td><td>10,000</td></tr><tr><td>Black Opal, Alexandrite</td><td>Legendary</td><td>250</td><td>10,000</td></tr></tbody></table>

#### Diminishing returns on Rare crystals

At high standing, **Rare** crystals grant less Reputation per extraction, so the climb toward the 10,000 ceiling slows down near the top:

<table><thead><tr><th width="280">Your total Miners Union Reputation</th><th>Reputation per Rare strike</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>0 – 7,499</td><td>50</td></tr><tr><td>7,500 – 8,999</td><td>25</td></tr><tr><td>9,000 – 9,999</td><td>10</td></tr><tr><td>10,000+</td><td>0 (ceiling reached)</td></tr></tbody></table>

**Legendary** gems are not reduced — they grant the full 250 all the way to the 10,000 ceiling.

{% hint style="info" %}
A ceiling only decides **whether** a drop still earns Reputation — it never shrinks the reward. An extraction just below the ceiling always grants its full amount, even if that overshoots the ceiling.
{% endhint %}

## Vein spawn alerts

Because a vein is a rare, map-wide event, every spawn is announced in **world chat**. On top of that, if you hold an active **Scouting Guild** powerup you can be notified directly: the notification settings carry a **Mining Veins** card with two toggles — **Level 1** and **Level 2+** — so you can watch only the tiers you actually mine. Alerts arrive per player and link straight to the new vein.
