# Buildings

The buildings of Axoma, and why your Hero has to be standing at one to use it

The buildings on the world map are where you craft, shop, heal, gamble and train. Click a building to open its panel.

## Your Hero has to be there

To use a building, your **selected Hero has to be standing at it**. You walk Heroes across the map yourself. [Heroes on the Map](/pawtato-land/gameplay/the-world/heroes-on-the-map.md) explains how.

A building's panel opens from any distance, so you can always look around inside. When your Hero is somewhere else:

* A notice at the top of the panel says **"Your Hero is not at …"** and offers a **Send Hero here** button.
* The building's actions are **locked**. They show in red with a lock icon until the Hero arrives.

Press **Send Hero here** and your Hero walks over and stops just in front of the building. The panel closes so you can watch it go; open it again once the Hero has arrived. If you keep a panel open while your Hero walks up, the notice disappears and the actions unlock as soon as it is close enough.

If the Hero can't walk right now, because it is in a Dungeon, on an Assignment, on Patrol or in the middle of gathering, the map shows why and the panel stays open.

A Hero that has never moved on the map stands in **Hearthstead**, right among the Crafting Stations and the Proving Grounds buildings.

### Which buildings need your Hero

<table><thead><tr><th width="260">Building</th><th>What needs the Hero there</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/crafting-stations.md">Crafting Stations</a> (Blacksmith, Leatherworker, Tailor, Mason, Woodwright, Cooking Station, Alchemist, Jeweller, Artificer, Carver)</td><td>Starting and claiming crafts, Blueprints, and equipment repair and modification</td></tr><tr><td><a href="/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/healing-well.md">Healing Well</a></td><td>The Free Daily Heal and Heal at Fountain</td></tr><tr><td>Guild</td><td>Levelling up and Ascension</td></tr><tr><td><a href="/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/merchant.md">Merchant</a></td><td>Buying</td></tr><tr><td><a href="/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/fishermans-hut.md">Fisherman's Hut</a></td><td>Buying</td></tr><tr><td>Herbalist's Hut and Miner's Tent</td><td>Buying from their shops</td></tr><tr><td><a href="/pawtato-land/gameplay/adventure/training-dummies.md">Training Dummies</a></td><td>Fighting a dummy</td></tr></tbody></table>

These are open **from anywhere**, with no Hero needed:

* The **Marketplace**
* The [**Arcane Tower**](/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/arcane-tower.md)
* **Tribal Ranking**
* The [**Arena**](/pawtato-land/gameplay/player-vs.-player/arena.md): issuing and accepting challenges
* The **Tribal Lodge**: registering for a [Tribal Conflict](/pawtato-land/gameplay/player-vs.-player/tribal-conflicts.md)
* The [**Altar**](/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/altar.md): Divine Calling contributions, Relic crafts and Charm upgrades
* The Guild's **stat point** allocation after a level-up
* The [**Casino**](/pawtato-land/gameplay/buildings/casino.md): the Wheel of Fortune, Charm Shuffle and Skill Shuffle

The same rule applies to the places out in the world. Shoals, Thickets, Veins, Combat Encounters, Dungeon entrances, Paw Paw, the Assignment Board and the Wandering Merchant all need your Hero standing there too.

{% hint style="info" %}
**The main buildings stay lit through the fog.** The Crafting Stations, the Arcane Tower, the Marketplace, the Arena, the Tribal Lodge and Tribal Ranking, the Healing Well, the Altar, the Casino, the Guild, the Merchant and the Assignment Board are always visible, even with no Hero nearby. See [Fog of War](/pawtato-land/gameplay/the-world/heroes-on-the-map.md#fog-of-war).
