# Cosmetics

**Visages** are Pawtato Land's cosmetic skins. A Visage overlays a new look onto a piece of a Hero's equipped gear — a **Party Hat** over a helmet, a **Balloon Sword** over a blade, a **Disco Ball** in the offhand — without touching how that gear performs.

{% hint style="info" %}
Visages are **purely cosmetic**. They grant **no stats and no gameplay effect** whatsoever — they only change how your Hero looks. Applying, swapping, or removing a Visage never alters a Hero's power.
{% endhint %}

## How Visages work

A Visage re-skins **one equipment slot**, and it only applies **on top of an item you already have equipped** — it does not replace or occupy the slot itself. Visages can restyle these slots:

* **Head Armor**
* **Body Armor**
* **Weapon (1-Hand)**
* **Weapon (2-Hand)**
* **Offhand**

Each Visage is tied to a specific **item type**, and can only be worn over a matching item of that exact type. A **Bow** Visage can only be applied while a Bow is equipped (not just any one-handed weapon), a **Light Armor** Visage only over Light Armor, and so on. If the matching item isn't equipped, the Visage won't be selectable for that slot.

## Where skins come from

The Visage Skins menu draws from two places:

* **Default skin** — every Hero already carries the **Armor Skin** and **Weapon Skin** from its own attributes. This is the Hero's built-in look, shown as the **Default** option and sourced from **Hero Attributes**.
* **Collectible Visages** — separate cosmetic items you collect and can apply on top of the default. These are the Party Hats, Balloons, and other special skins below.

## Collectible Visages

Collectible Visages are in-game cosmetic items that live in your Backpack. They are **tradeable** — you can list them on the in-game **Marketplace** — and each comes in either a **Limited** or **Unlimited** edition, with an edition size showing how many exist. Current Visages include:

<table><thead><tr><th width="240">Visage</th><th width="200">Slot</th><th>Worn over</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Party Hat</strong></td><td>Head Armor</td><td>Any armor</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Party Vest</strong></td><td>Body Armor</td><td>Any armor</td></tr><tr><td><strong>1st Anniversary Crown</strong></td><td>Head Armor</td><td>Any armor</td></tr><tr><td><strong>1st Anniversary Robe</strong></td><td>Body Armor</td><td>Any armor</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Fisherman's Hat</strong></td><td>Head Armor</td><td>Any armor</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Fisherman's Vest</strong></td><td>Body Armor</td><td>Any armor</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Morito's Old Hat</strong></td><td>Head Armor</td><td>Light Armor</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Morito's Old Robe</strong></td><td>Body Armor</td><td>Light Armor</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Balloon Sword</strong></td><td>Weapon (1-Hand)</td><td>Shortsword</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Balloon Dagger</strong></td><td>Weapon (1-Hand)</td><td>Dagger</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Balloon Bow</strong></td><td>Weapon (1-Hand)</td><td>Bow</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Balloon Hammer</strong></td><td>Weapon (1-Hand)</td><td>Mace</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Balloon Wand</strong></td><td>Weapon (1-Hand)</td><td>Wand</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Balloon Greatsword</strong></td><td>Weapon (2-Hand)</td><td>Greatsword</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Balloon Staff</strong></td><td>Weapon (2-Hand)</td><td>Staff</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Balloon Axe</strong></td><td>Weapon (2-Hand)</td><td>Axe</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Balloon Shield</strong></td><td>Offhand</td><td>Shield</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Disco Ball</strong></td><td>Offhand</td><td>Orb, Gadget or Quiver</td></tr></tbody></table>

Visages are handed out through the game rather than crafted — sources include **loot** (such as chests), in-game **shops**, **contests**, **giveaways**, **tournaments**, and the [Arena](/pawtato-land/gameplay/player-vs.-player/arena.md). Availability changes over time, and Limited editions are minted only while their event runs.

## How to apply a Visage (step by step)

1. Open [**Hero Management**](https://pawtato.gg/?hm=1) by clicking your Hero's portrait in the top-left corner of the screen (or open your **Player Profile**, click **Manage Heroes**, and pick the Hero on the **Heroes** tab). The Hero must be **staked**.
2. Make sure an item is **equipped** in the slot you want to restyle (Head, Body, Weapon, or Offhand) — see [Equipment](/pawtato-land/gameplay/equipment.md) for how to equip gear.
3. On that equipped slot, click the small **Change visage skin** button in the slot's corner. The **Visage Skins** menu opens.
4. Pick an option:
   * A **Visage** you own that fits the slot — click **Equip** (or **Switch** to swap out one already applied).
   * The **Default** skin from the Hero's own attributes — click **Select**.
5. To revert, reopen the menu and choose **Unequip** on the applied Visage, or **Deselect** the current skin, to return to the Hero's base look.

{% hint style="info" %}
Each Visage can only be applied to one Hero at a time. If it's already worn by another Hero, the menu shows that Hero's name and applying it here moves the Visage over.
