In **Pawtato Land** an Architect can **craft** ([Crafting](/pawtato-land/gameplay/crafting.md)) many different Tools to complement the chosen playstyle. Those Tools can be **equipped** (staked), **recycled** ([Salvaging](/pawtato-land/gameplay/crafting/salvaging.md)), **upgraded** ([Upgrading](/pawtato-land/gameplay/crafting/upgrading.md)) or **sold** on the secondary market.

Tools can have various benefits, for example:

* Increase production of [Resources](/pawtato-land/gameplay/resources.md)
* Enable [Resource Processing](/pawtato-land/gameplay/resources/resource-processing.md)
* Unlock Quality of Life features
* Enable crafting of [Consumables](/pawtato-land/gameplay/consumables.md)

## How to equip a tool (step by step)

1. Open your **Player Profile** by clicking your profile picture in the top-left corner of the screen, then select the [**Tools**](https://pawtato.gg/?tm=1) tab. It shows your tool slots grouped under [**Miscellaneous Tools**](/pawtato-land/gameplay/tools/miscellaneous-tools.md), **Crafting Tools** ([Woodworking](/pawtato-land/gameplay/tools/woodworking-tools.md), [Masonry](/pawtato-land/gameplay/tools/masonry-tools.md), [Blacksmithing](/pawtato-land/gameplay/tools/blacksmithing-tools.md)) and [**Production Tools**](/pawtato-land/gameplay/tools/production-tools.md).
2. Pick a slot. Click an unlocked, empty slot under the category you want (for example **Production Tools** or **Miscellaneous Tools**). The **Tools** picker opens for that slot's **Category**.
3. Equip the Tool. Find the Tool in the list and click **Equip** (or click its row). It is staked into the slot and shows an **Equipped** badge.
   * To replace a Tool already in the slot, open the slot and click **Switch** on a different Tool, or **Unequip** to empty it.
   * If you have no matching Tool, the panel shows **Craft Now**, which takes you to [Crafting](/pawtato-land/gameplay/crafting.md).
   * A broken or in-repair Tool shows **Repair** / **Modify** instead — see [Tool Durability & Repairs](/pawtato-land/gameplay/tools/tool-durability-and-repairs.md).
4. Unlock more slots (optional). Locked slots show the resource and amount required (for example "x 1,000 to unlock"). Click a locked slot to open its unlock panel, then click **Unlock Slot** to burn the required resources and open it. Slots must be unlocked in order — the button instead reads **Insufficient Balance** or **Cannot Unlock Yet** when you cannot unlock it yet.

Base slot counts, plus the bonus Production and Miscellaneous slots granted by staking an Estate or Province, are covered on the [Plot](/pawtato-land/gameplay/land-nft/plot.md), [Estate](/pawtato-land/gameplay/land-nft/estate.md) and [Province](/pawtato-land/gameplay/land-nft/province.md) pages.

Tools have a rarity system of six tiers, next to unique attributes of the Tool also increase maximum **Durability:**
